Insgesamt ist in meinen Augen ein solider Debütroman, welcher besonders für seine Zielgruppe (Kinder und Jugendliche ab 10 Jahren) Highlight-Potential aufweist.Der Spannungsbogen in der Geschichte wird schon von Anfang an und auch im weiteren Verlauf immer ziemlich hochgehalten. Die Geschichte ist in sich abgeschlossen, das Ende wirft aber ein paar Fragen auf und macht richtig Lust auf den zweiten Band! Mia and the Lightcasters has all the things I love in kid's books: a great, gutsy main character, epic adventure, and animal familiars. sie rennen weg, aber die Elite ist schon da oder hat sich sofort gefunden und dann gelingt wieder irgendwie die Flucht und zum Schluss sind wir genau da wo wie gestartet sind und die Lösung des Twists hat, dann das ganze wegbrenne unnötig gemacht (außer, dass Mia nun ihre Kräfte kontrollieren kann und keine Angst mehr vor Umbra hat, aber gerade diese beiden Teile wurde mir auch zu einfach gelöst). Rarely are there stories where people still care for each other but not always on the same side, so I appreciate seeing that happen here.

Auch ihre enge Beziehung zu ihrer Familie, besonders ihrem kleinen Bruder Lucas, und ihren Freunden hat mir sehr gefallen.

Nachdem in der Beschreibung stand, dass das Buch etwas für alle Harry Potter sowie Keeper of the Lost Cities ist, hat es mich als großer Fan der beiden Reihen natürlich neugierig gemacht. Wächterin des Lichts" ist der Auftakt zu einer Reihe die in Deutschland unter dem Namen "Chroniken von Lunis" vermarktet wird.

This book, (Mia and the Lightcasters) was a Christmas present for my youngest grand-daughter, and as her name is also Mia I thought it would be appropriate.I was utterly swept into this breath-taking adventure which has everything I love in epic fantasy: rich world-building; peril with a balance of hope; characters who have a close bond of friendship; fascinating, sentient creatures; hidden powers; and, a dark villain who influences from a mystical other world. You guys were so fab and Dawn was such a lovely presence in the schools - I will absolutely be in touch next time I'm in your neck of the woods.
